In an effort to keep creators posting to Facebook and the wider Meta suite, Meta announced that Facebook creators will be able to monetize content posted on their stories in addition to their feed content. This initiative is likely part of their efforts to increase creator retention and regular content in which all social platforms are currently competing with each other for. Below is a quote from Meta regarding the update:
“With the [previous] revenue-share payout model, creators were paid based on the performance of the ads placed within their content, which depended on many factors outside of their control, such as how many ads the viewer had already seen, ad load, and CPM. The performance based payout model frees creators from these constraints: it allows creators to make money regardless of whether an ad was shown on their content, as it focuses on the amount of views and engagement the content drives.”
I believe this is a smart move from Meta as they currently have the widest variety of placements of social platforms, hence allowing creators to monetize posting on more placements is a strong incentive to stay on Meta. I am not sure we will see a difference in creator behaviour as creators already tend to post stories regularly as it being the strongest engaging format hence it will be interesting to see how other platforms react.
